Dakota and the American Dream

Dakota and the American Dream

Dakota and the American Dream by Sameer Garach

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Review:
Dakota and the American Dream was an enjoyable read with a great meaning to it. Sameer Garach holds a great skill for satirical writing matched with an uparalleled sense of humor. The story starts with Dakota, a 10 year old boy who follows a squirrel into the world of Corporate America, mirroring the conception of Alice in Wonderland.

β€œSanta’s not real,” Dakota answered, very beat. β€œHow can a fat guy visit so many houses in one night? With flying reindeer? It just is not possible,” he thought.

(lol, sorry Santa!) I loved Dakota and his persona was unique and he faces the world with an unwavering resolve. The pace was quick and likeable and the world building was splendid. The narrative and the plot of the story will leave you aching for more. It was realistic and every aspects of criticism you face in a world such as ours, was meticulously depicted. I had a good laugh throughout the book but the message behind every word was resonating which made me realise the flaws that exists in our system.

“The bee only wanted to hear what he wanted to hear.”

An apt, thought provoking novel for both kids and adults but it might not be for everyone. I’d rate it a four star and I do highly recommend this if you are looking for a mind boggling satire. Thank you Sameer Garach for providing me with a copy for an honest review!

“It only takes one bad experience to generalize a whole group.”

Godsgrave

Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5.

My Review:
Godsgrave is the sequel to Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I loved Nevernight soooo much and with the 4 star that I have given for Godsgrave, sums up that I freaking loved this too. First off, this book took a turn from, sneaky, cool assassins to bloody gladiators. Truth told, I was sceptical at first. But my love for Mia is just so immense that I really enjoyed this. Jay Kristoff has the knack to pull off anything.

β€œYOUR TRUTH LIES BURIED IN THE GRAVE. AND YET YOU PAINT YOUR HANDS IN RED FOR THEM, WHEN YOU SHOULD BE PAINTING THE SKIES BLACK.”

Godsgrave starts with Mia selling herself as a slave to be sold off to the gladiators! Mia’s journey through this book is extraordinary. All the chatecters are incredible, especially Sid. Furian and Leona are so complex and well written.

β€œDeath is the only promise we all keep.”

This book had me question Mia’s actions and morality. Some parts were really dark and uncomfortable. (view spoiler)[ How could a person who couldn’t kill a child to become a blade betray her friends? But Thank god! That is just the way of Mr. Kristoff’s way of giving us a heart attack for the nth time! (hide spoiler)] The fight scenes are epic and to live for. The only thing I found odd was Mia’s relationship with __. There was not much chemistry between them and the fact that it happened so quick wasn’t helping much either. (view spoiler)[ Mia thinks that she has to choose for herself and that someome is Ash, thats okay, but it happened too fast. Maybe the emotions were running high?(I don’t know!) But the sex scenes were cringey tho. (hide spoiler)] The back and forth between flashbacks and the current scenarios were brilliantly comprised.

“I’ve felt your hand at work. Like some shadow puppeteer ever pulling the strings, and we, the marionettes.”

To summarise, the ending left me reeling with shock and dozens of questions. The ending is just mind blowing.

❌SPOILERS❌
1. I love Eclipse and Mr. Kindly’s constant banter.
2. What bothered me was, when Mia kills, doesn’t she think that she might create a dozen other Mia in the process that some children might become orphans. In Nevernight, Mr. Kristoff drops a bomb that Mia was responsible for the massacre during the truedark. Like Tric says, her vengeance blinds her and it scared me with how ease she kills.
3. I liked Jess, thank you for killing her too AshlinπŸ˜‘!
4. Thank god! Jonnen is alive.
5. Why can’t this Scaeva guy just die. He is Mia’s father!!!!!!! WTFFFFF!!! Thats so messed up.
6. Mercurio is the best and Solis can go to hell!
7. I miss Don Tric😒 and i feel sad for Maggot too.

β€œFaith never kept a drowning man from sinking.”
